Football Applique - Free Pattern

Here are the directions for my football applique.  It is approximately 3 inches long and 1.5 inches across the widest point.  Please only use the pattern for personal or charitable use - it is not intended to be sold without the permission of the designer.

Football Applique
Abbreviations:
SL ST = Slip Stitch
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
HTBC = Half Treble Crochet
TBC = Treble Crochet

Using a size H hook with two strands held together and brown yarn, CHAIN 11.
Place a *SL ST in first chain, then SC, HDC, DC, HTBC, TBC, HTBC, DC, HDC, SC, SL ST*
CHAIN 1, turn repeat pattern between *'s across the back of the original chain.
CHAIN 1 then place 1 SC in the back of each stitch around.  Fasten off and sew in ends.

With white, embroider football stitching.  Sew in all ends and enjoy.

I simply stitch these appliques on to my project.

  1. Wonderful blog! Do you have any tips and hints for
    aspiring writers? I'm hoping to start my own site soon but I'm a little lost on everything.
    Would you suggest starting with a free platform like Wordpress
    or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I'm completely confused .. Any recommendations? Many thanks!

  2. I am doing boys scarves for an outreach and this is just the right size to kick it up a notch.

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Hi the football is cute and I would love to make it, but I'm confused about your crochet stitch terms. Are these UK or US? They seem to be both. Would you mind clarifying?
    Thanks :)

  4. Sorry for the delayed response. These are supposed to be US terms, however I may be mistaken. The idea is to increase the height up one side to the tallest stitch, the decrease in the same way on the way back down. Pattern is repeated across the back of the chain.
